Why were slave revolts in Rome defeated?

The slave revolts were defeated for several reasons. The rebels did not have a clear plan of action. They also did not have good weapons with which to resist the army of Rome. As a result, the legionnaires crucified the rebels along the road. The uprising was brutally suppressed. The uprising had historical significance: it accelerated the pace of the transition of the republican form of government to the imperial one.
