Why were Spartans banned from appearing at the Olympics for twenty years?

This fact can be explained by the fact that the Spartans started the war at the time of the Olympic Games. As you know, in Greece there was a strict rule that related to sports competitions, in connection with which it was forbidden to start a war during the games, but the Spartans violated this ban and were suspended for 20 years from participation.
