Why were the Greeks proud of the Greco-Persian battles?

Because they won them. The following outstanding battles of the Greeks and Persians can be distinguished:
1) Marathon battle, took place in 490 BC, here the Greeks won for the first time;
2) the Battle of Salamis, took place in 480 BC, here the Greeks were able to defeat the Persian fleet;
3) Battle of Plataea, it took place in 479 BC, here the Greeks won a decisive victory in the war with Xerxes.
