Theatrical activity in ancient Greece is associated with the name of the god Dionysus. Among the ancient Greeks, this deity was most often personified with fun and celebration, and Dionysus was also considered the patron saint of theatrical art. This is how the theater appeared in Greece, although it was quite different from the modern one: only men could play there, emotions were portrayed using masks, and the performances themselves took place in the open air.
