With (x) long-eared sheep, long-eared lambs are born among themselves, with (x) earless sheep

With (x) long-eared sheep, long-eared lambs are born among themselves, with (x) earless sheep between themselves, earless ones are born. Hybrids between long-eared, earless have short ears. What offspring will be obtained with (x) such hybrids among themselves and with (x) them with an earless individual.

From the condition of the problem it is clear that we are talking about incomplete dominance of a trait, when heterozygotes for a certain trait have a new, different from the parental, intermediate phenotype.

Let’s designate long-eared by the letter A, long-eared sheep will have the AA genotype;

earlessness – with the letter a, earless sheep – aa.

Then short-eared sheep will have the Aa genotype.

When short-eared sheep are crossed with each other, each individual will produce 2 types of gametes: A and a.

As a result of gamete recombination, we get the following results:

25% of offspring from a pair of short-eared heterozygous sheep will have the AA genotype and long ears;

50% of the lambs will be heterozygous, short-eared;

25% of the lambs from this pair will be homozygous, earless.

When crossing a short-eared (Aa) individual giving two types of gametes (A and a) with an earless (a) producing gametes of the same species (a), we get the following offspring:

50% of lambs will be short-eared heterozygotes (Aa);

50% of lambs are earless homozygous (aa).
