Write down the equations for the reactions that produce calcium carbonate.
Calcium carbonate, chemical formula CaCO3, can be obtained industrially in a variety of ways. Let’s look at a few examples of reactions:
The first option, we take calcium hydroxide, add carbon dioxide and as a result of the reaction we get calcium carbonate and water.
Ca (OH) 2 + CO2 = CaCO3 ↓ + H2O
The second is also one of the simplest options, it is to add carbon dioxide to calcium oxide, as a result of the reaction we get calcium carbonate.
CaO + CO2 = CaCO3
The third option is to add some salt from a number of carbonates, for example sodium carbonate, to bivalent calcium hydroxide, and as a result of the exchange reaction we get calcium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, where calcium carbonate will precipitate.
Ca (OH) 2 + Na2CO3 = CaCO3 + 2 NaOH
