Let us write down the reaction equations for the transformation chain:
1. СН4 = С + 2Н2 – methane decomposition reaction, hydrogen gas and carbon (soot) were formed;
2. С + 2Н2 = СН4 – compounds, methane was obtained;
CH4 + Cl2 = CH3Cl + HCl – substitution occurs in the light, methane chloride is released;
3. C2H6 = C2H4 + H2 – dehydrogenation reaction, ethylene was released;
C2H4 = C2H2 + H2 – acetylene and hydrogen were formed in the process of dehydrolgenation;
C2H2 + HCl = H2C = CHCl – addition of hydrogen chloride to acetylene, vinyl chloride is obtained.
These reactions show the relationship between different classes of hydrocarbons, as well as organic and inorganic substances. The reaction products find practical applications, for example, vinyl chloride in the production of polyvinyl chloride.
