1) Sodium oxide is produced by the interaction of metallic sodium and oxygen:
2Na + 1 / 2O2 = Na2O.
2) Sodium oxide is the main oxide, therefore, like others, it interacts with water, resulting in a water-soluble base – sodium hydroxide.
Na2O + HOH = 2NaOH.
3) Sodium carbonate is produced by the interaction of carbon dioxide and sodium hydroxide:
2NaOH + CO2 = Na2CO3 + H2O.
