The chain S = SO2 = SO3 = H2SO4 = FeSO4 proceeds as follows:
The first reaction is the reaction of sulfur and oxygen, as a result of which sulfur dioxide is formed:
S + O2 = SO2
The second reaction is to obtain tetravalent sulfur oxide:
2SO2 + O2 = 2SO3
The third reaction is the production of sulfuric acid from tetravalent sulfur oxide and water:
SO3 + H2O = H2SO4
The fourth reaction is the production of ferrous sulfate:
Fe + H2SO4 = FeSO4 + H2
