The reaction equation for the hydrolysis of acetylene:
C2H2 + H2O (Hg2 +, H +) = CH3CHO
The amount of acetaldehyde substance:
v (CH3CHO) = m (CH3CHO) / M (CH3CHO) = 13.2 / 44 = 0.3 (mol).
According to the reaction equation, 1 mol of CH3CHO is formed from 1 mol of C2H2, therefore:
v (C2H2) = v (CH3CHO) = 0.3 (mol).
Thus, the mass of the acetylene reacted is:
m (C2H2) = v (C2H2) * M (C2H2) = 0.3 * 26 = 7.8 (g).
