1. Let’s write the equation of the ongoing fermentation:
C6H12O6 → 2C2H5OH + 2CO2 ↑.
2. The amount of alcohol produced is twice the amount of glucose:
n (C2H5OH) = n (C6H12O6) * 2 = 5 * 2 = 10 mol.
3. Calculate the mass of ethanol:
m (C2H5OH) = n (C2H5OH) * M (C2H5OH);
M (C2H5OH) = 2 * 12 + 5 + 17 = 46 g / mol;
m (C2H5OH) = 10 * 46 = 460 g.
4. Determine the mass of the alcohol solution:
m (solution) = m (C2H5OH): w (C2H5OH) = 460: 0.4 = 1150 g.
