| Write the equation for the reaction of burning iron (III). Calculate how much oxygen is required to completely burn 560 g of iron.
Let’s write the reaction equation:
4Fe + 3O2 (t) = 2Fe2O3
Let’s find the amount of iron substance:
v (Fe) = m (Fe) / M (Fe) = 560/56 = 10 (mol).
According to the reaction equation, 4 mol of Fe reacts with 3 mol of O2, therefore:
v (O2) = v (Fe) * 3/4 = 10 * 3/4 = 7.5 (mol).
Thus, the required mass of oxygen:
m (O2) = v (O2) * M (O2) = 7.5 * 32 = 240 (g).
Answer: 240 g.
