• A gene is a section of a chromosome.
• Allelic genes (genes responsible for one trait) are located in strictly defined places (loci) of homologous chromosomes.
• Genes are located in chromosomes linearly, that is, one after the other.
• In the process of gamete formation between homologous chromosomes, conjugation occurs, as a result of which they can exchange allelic genes, that is, crossing over can occur.
