| To perform transformations along this chain, we will do the following manipulations:
1.Carbon is burned in a sufficient amount of oxygen. Emitted gas – carbon dioxide:
C + O2 = CO2
2.The resulting carbon dioxide is passed through a sodium hydroxide solution:
CO2 + 2 NaOH = Na2CO3 + H2O
3. Formed sodium carbonate can be treated with sulfuric acid solution. As a result of the reaction, sodium sulfate and carbonic acid are formed, which almost immediately decomposes into water and carbon dioxide. Therefore, the overall equation will look like this:
Na2CO3 + H2SO4 = Na2SO4 + H2O + CO2
4. Now add barium chloride to sodium carbonate. Barium sulfate will precipitate:
Na2SO4 + BaCl2 = 2 NaCl + BaSO4
