1) Barium reacts with oxygen and forms – barium oxide:

2Ba + O2 → 2BaO;

2) When barium oxide interacts with calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide precipitates and calcium oxide is obtained:

BaO + Ca (OH) 2 ↓ → Ba (OH) 2 ↓ + CaO;

3) Barium hydroxide decomposes into barium oxide and water:

Ba (OH) 2 ↓ → BaO + H2O.
