Let’s write down the equations for hydrocarbons:
1. С2Н6 = Н2 + С2Н4 – dehydrogenation reaction, ethylene was formed;
2. C2H4 = C2H2 + H2 – dehydrogenation, acetylene is released;
3. 3C2H2 = C6H6 – trimerization reaction, possible when heated on a carbon catalyst, benzene is obtained.
These reactions show the bond of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons. Each of the substances is used in industry. Ethane is a part of natural gas and is a fuel; ethylene is used in the production of alcohols and solvents, as well as in the production of polyethylene. Acetylene (ethyne) is an additive to fuel for combustion and serves as the basis for the synthesis of benzene.
