1) The reaction of dissolution of calcium carbide in water with the formation of calcium hydroxide and acetylene (gas):
CaC2 + 2H2O = Ca (OH) 2 + C2H2 (The reaction of obtaining acetylene under laboratory conditions).
2) Reaction of acetylene hydration (Kucherov reaction), in the presence of mercury salts with the formation of ethanal:
C2H2 + H2O = CH3COH.
Reaction condition: mercury salts Hg + (indicated above the equality between the right and left side of the reaction).
3) Reaction of ethanal hydrogenation to ethanol:
CH3COH + H2 = CH3CH2OH.
