Let’s carry out the solution of the chain of transformations:
1.2CH4 = C2H2 + 3H2 – acetylene is released:
2. С2Н2 + Н2О = Н2С = СН2 – ОН = Н3С = СОН – acetylene hydration;
3. СН3СОН + Ag2O = CH3COOH + 2Ag – acetic acid obtained:
4. СН3СООН + Сl2 = CH2Cl – COOH + HCl – substitution, chloroacetic acid is released.
These reactions show that there is a bond between alkanes and oxygen-containing organic compounds. The end product of the chain of transformations – chloroacetic acid is used in the production of dyes, and in chemistry it is used as an oxidizing agent.
