Write the reaction equation: CH4 – C2H2 – C2H4 – C2H5OH

1) When exposed to temperature, methane decomposes into acetylene and hydrogen:

2CH4 → C2H2 + 4H2 ↑;

2) Acetylene reacts with hydrogen, ethylene is formed:

C2H2 + H2 → C2H4;

3) Ethylene reacts with water, as a result we get – ethanol:

C2H4 + H2O → C2H5OH.
