| 1) To obtain ethane from methane, it is necessary to carry out two reactions. First, methane reacts with chlorine, it turns out – chloromethane and hydrochloric acid:
CH4 + Cl2 → CH3Cl + HCl;
Next, sodium metal is added to chloromethane, and ethane and sodium chloride are obtained:
CH3Cl + Na → C2H6 + NaCl (the presented reaction is called the Wurtz reaction)
2) Ethane reacts with chlorine, it turns out – chloroethane and hydrochloric acid:
C2H6 + Cl2 → C2H5Cl + HCl;
3) When chloroethane interacts with sodium hydroxide, ethanol and sodium chloride are formed:
C2H5Cl + NaOH → C2H5OH + NaCl;
4) To obtain ethyl ester of butyric acid from ethanol, it is necessary to add butyric acid to ethanol, as a result we get:
С3H7COOH + C2H5OH → C3H7COOC2H5 + H2O.
