Write the reaction equation: FeS – FeCl2 – Fe (NO3) 2 – Fe (OH) 2

We are given a homologous chain of chemicals. from iron sulfide to iron hydroxide, in order to carry it out, we need to carry out three chemical reactions.

Iron sulfide reacts chemically with hydrochloric acid. Hydrogen sulfide is formed and the ferric chloride salt we need for the next reaction.

FeS + 2 HCl = FeCl2 + H2S ↑
To the ferric chloride salt, we add the silver nitrate salt in order to obtain the ferrous nitrate salt. Also in this reaction, the silver chloride salt precipitates.

FeCl2 + 2 AgNO3 = Fe (NO3) 2 + 2 AgCl ↓
Add caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) to the iron nitrate and form the ferrous hydroxide we need and the sodium nitrate salt.

Fe (NO3) 2 + 2 NaOH = Fe (OH) 2 ↓ + 2 NaNO3.
