1) 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO – magnesium is oxidized by oxygen to magnesium oxide.
2) MgO + H2SO4 = MgSO4 + H2O – magnesium oxide reacts with sulfate acid to form magnesium sulfate and water.
3) MgSO4 + 2NaOH = Mg (OH) 2 + Na2SO4 – magnesium sulfate reacts with sodium hydroxide to form magnesium hydroxide and sodium sulfate.
4) Mg (OH) 2 – MgO + H2O – magnesium hydroxide decomposes, when exposed to high temperatures, with the formation of magnesium oxide and water.
