The next reaction of nitric oxide with oxygen, as a result of the reaction, tetravalent nitric oxide is formed.

And the last reaction from tetravalent nitrogen oxide with the addition of oxygen and water, we get nitric acid.
4NO2 + O2 + 2H2O = 4HNO3.
