| We write down the reaction equation for the next chain of reactions.
Propene → 2-bromopropane → propanol-2 → isopropyl formate
1. Getting 2 – bromopropane.
CH2 = CH – CH3 + HBr = CH3 – CH2Br – CH3.
When propene interacts with hydrogen bromide, 2-bromopropane is formed as a result.
2. Getting propanol – 2.
CH3 – CH2Br – CH3 + KOH = CH3 – CH2OH – CH3 + KBr
When bromopropane interacts with potassium hydroxide, propanol-2 and potassium bromine are formed as a result.
3. Obtaining isopropyl formate.
HCOOH + CH3 – CHOH – CH3 = HCOOCH (CH3) 2 + H2O
The result is methyl formate.
