| 1. The product of the reaction between zinc and sulfur is zinc sulfide.
Zn + S = ZnS.
2. When zinc sulfide burns, zinc oxides and sulfur (IV) oxide are formed.
ZnS + O2 = ZnO + SO2.
(3) With further combustion of sulfur (IV) oxide, sulfur (VI) oxide is formed.
2SO2 + O2 = 2SO3.
4. Sulfur (VI) oxide is an acidic oxide that, when dissolved in water, forms the corresponding sulfuric acid.
SO3 + H2O = H2SO4.
5. Sulfuric acid, reacting with barium chloride, form barium sulfate and hydrochloric acid.
BaCl2 + H2SO4 = BaSO4 ↓ + 2HCl.
