1. Combustion of coal:
C + O2 = CO2.
2. When carbon dioxide is absorbed by calcium oxide, carbonate is formed:
CaO + CO2 = CaCO3.
3. Bicarbonate is formed as a result of the interaction of carbon dioxide dissolved in water with lime:
CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 = Ca (HCO3) 2.
4. When boiled, decomposition occurs:
Ca (HCO3) 2 = CaCO3 + H2O + CO2.
5. Decomposition on heating:
CaCO3 = CaO + CO2.
6. Combustion of magnesium in carbon dioxide:
CO2 + 2Mg = 2MgO + C.
