1. Obtaining sec-butyl alcohol (2-butanol) by dehalogenation of a halogenated alkane in the presence of an aqueous alkali solution:
CH3-CH2-CHCl-CH3 + KOH = CH3-CH2-CHOH-CH3 + KCl.
2. Obtaining 2-butanol from alkene by hydration reaction in an acidic medium:
CH3-CH2-CH = CH2 + H2O = CH3-CH2-CHOH-CH3.
