Write the reaction equations that can be used to obtain salts a) barium sulfate; b) magnesium chloride

Let’s take a look at the preparation of two salts, barium sulfate and magnesium chloride.

Barium sulfate can be obtained by the reaction between barium chloride and sulfuric acid, as a result of the reaction, the desired barium sulfate and hydrochloric acid are formed.

BaCl2 + H2SO4 = BaSO4 + 2 HCl

Magnesium chloride can be obtained by reacting magnesium oxide, chlorine and carbon. The reaction produces magnesium chloride and carbon dioxide.

2 MgO + 2 Cl₂ + C = 2 MgCl₂ + CO₂
