You were given a piece of aluminum how to determine if there is a cavity inside it? What do you need to have for this?
To do this, you can use two methods: calculated and practical.
For the calculation method, the mass of the workpiece should be determined. It is determined by the formula:
m = p * V
where p is the density that we find from the tabular values. For aluminum, p = 2700 kg / m3.
V is the volume of the workpiece, m3.
Let’s say that our workpiece has the shape of a parallelepiped with sides of 10, 20, 30 centimeters, respectively.
Let’s find the volume:
V = a * b * c – for a parallelepiped, where a, b, c are the sides of the parallelepiped.
V = 0.1 * 0.2 * 0.3 = 0.006 m3
Next, we find the mass:
m = 0.006 * 2700 = 16.2 kg
After the calculation, we put our workpiece on the scales, if they show a lower result, then the workpiece has cavities inside it.
The second method is used in production. It consists in ultrasonic scanning of metal.
